Family ties to a "wonderful trove of designs" led to the re-imagining of this Rome-based accessories label. From the 1960s to the 1980s, Sonia Petroff was a name associated with flamboyant belts with gilt bejewelled buckles and for statement choker necklaces redolent of Italian craftsmanship and style. Over the years Sonia Petroff also designed for Nina Ricci, Balmain and Valentino. The label stopped when the designer retired in 1990. After her death, Maria Leoni-Sceti, who is married to the designer’s nephew and is now the comeback brand’s creative director, gained access to the label’s rich archive of sketches, materials and prototypes. In 2018 this laid the foundation for a new venture that includes elaborate earrings, statement belts and neckpieces while staying true to the distinctive Sonia Petroff aesthetic.
