A magnificent pearl and diamond necklace. This astounding piece features five rows of graduating natural pearls, which are impressive, lustrous, and uniform in shape and size. The five rows of pearls meet at a scintillating diamond-set clasp featuring a central one carat diamond surrounded by further sparkling diamonds. Natural pearls are revered for their rarity and beauty, and this important necklace features six hundred and sixty-eight natural pearls of great nacre. During the Victorian era, pearl necklaces were popular, and ropes of natural pearls can be seen in many portraits of European royalty such as Franz Xaver Winterhalter’s 1857 portrait of Empress Maria Alexandrovna.

Joanna Hardy says: " To get a five row natural pearl necklace of all similar colour and graduating pearls would have taken years to complete. Nice creamy luster. It is a very rare necklace."
